Review of the Jimmy Jane Afterglow Massage Candle

Finding a good massage candle can be tricky sometimes. Some are too waxy, while others have no scent. Some even make gummy little pills and leave my hands skidding to a stop on my husband’s back. Not the Jimmyjane Afterglow.

I’ll admit it; I was lured in by the candle holder and the scents, but I held off on these candles for quite a while. About 4 years back or so, when I had just started out as a reviewer, I was sent one of these candles. Well, this was before they were reformulated to be more body-friendly. I had gotten one that had diethylphthalates in it, a common ingredient used with fragrances. Well, that turned me off and kept me at bay, even after the formula was changed. What finally changed my mind? I don’t know. I guess you could say I just finally caved and let go of my inhibitions. And you know what? I’m glad I did. Well, for the most part. I’m still wondering about some of the ingredients.

Packaging: Every package that I’ve received from EdenFantasys has been discreet. You don’t have to worry about anyone knowing the contents of your package, and the return address always says “Webmerchants” instead of the store name.

The candle arrived perfectly intact. It wasn’t melted in the slightest (which would be odd, given the fact that it’s Winter, but I figure I should mention it anyway).

The packaging for the Afterglow Massage Candle is pretty simple and unassuming. Everything is fairly “safe” in that most who don’t know about Jimmyjane won’t assume that the candle is from a company that also manufactures sex toys. However, it does say:

“Jimmyjane is a design-centric brand founded on the belief that life is better with a sexy twist. We design products and experiences to provide pleasure, strengthen connection, and create provocative possibility. LIVE SEXY.”

Anyway, the box states some general information about the candle, and has snippets of various languages stating what the product is. However, the product description and warnings are only written in English and French. Inside, you’ll find an instructional booklet in English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, and Italian.

What irritated me, at first, was that I could not find the ingredient list for this candle in the instruction booklet. All the other language sections in the booklet, except for English, have the ingredient lists for the various scents printed. Granted, the ingredient list for this particular scent is printed on the bottom of the box, and on a sticker on the bottom of the candle. Still, I’d like to see the ingredient lists section added into the English portion of the booklet. I wouldn’t mind checking out the ingredient lists of the other candles before buying them, but the booklet only gives me that option if I speak one of the other languages included, instead of English.

To prevent the candle’s scent from losing potency, and to keep it safe, a thin layer of plastic film is used to seal off the candle. This can be easily removed. That’s why it looks like the candle has some sort of top to it in the last photo; the protective film is printed with the company name and logo.

The porcelain candle holder is also printed with the company name and logo in the bottom corner. It looks almost like a perfect cube, except for one corner. It’s like those little milk cartons that you have to open up the spout to pour. This makes the candle much easier to pour, and creates less of a mess than candles with round holders/tins like the ONO Massage Candle.

You don’t need to worry about the holder being to hot to touch either. No matter how long I’ve burned the candle, the holder stays what I would consider just a little warmer than body temperature.

Ingredients: The Afterglow candle’s packaging boasts natural ingredients, among those mentioned being jojoba, shea butter, Vitamin E and Aloe. Sounds good, right? Maybe you’d think that all the ingredients would be safe and natural? Well, I’m not completely sure. Most of the ingredients aren’t even listed on the EWG Cosmetics Database…

Ingredients: soybean oil, shea butter, palmarosa oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera, vitamin E, alpha damascone, citronellyl butrate, geranyl phenyl acetate, leaf alcohol, dimethyl octanyl acetate, ionone alpha extra, dihydroionone beta, geranyl propionate, alpha terpineol, geranyl acetate syn 85%, geranyl isobutyrate, citronellyl propionate, raspberry ketone, methone extra, citronellyl acetate, triplal rose oxide r, ethyl aceto acetate, fructone, geranyl formate, amyl cinnamic aldehyde, vertenex, geranyl acetone, tabac balkan abs decol, nerol syn 95%, citronellyl formate, citral syn, cade oil rectified, lychee musk-free, geraniol extra, dimethyl octanol, citronellol pure, mamey GIVCO 200, phenoxyethyl isobutyrate, dioctyl adipate, phenyl ethyl alcohol

From what information that I could gather, most of the ingredients seem to be fairly safe. This candle is free from phthalates, parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals and animal products. However, there are ingredients that are associated with allergies and contact dermatitis. There’s also synthetic ingredients. Those who have sensitive skin may want to avoid this product.

This candle is not meant for internal use or genital use. Also, be careful if you plan on using latex condoms. Wash your hands first before handling them, as the oils in candles can damage the condoms.

Wick: The wick is made from natural cotton, and is both paraffin-free and lead-free. Keep it trimmed to about 1/4” to avoid sooting and those little black globs that form on candle wicks, which can fall off and contaminate the massage oil.

Size / Burn Time: This candle is 4.5oz (127g) and can burn up to 32 hours. I haven’t been timing mine religiously, but I would say it’s been lit for a combination of times of 20 hours altogether, and still has a while to go.

It takes about 10 minutes to get a pool of oil that would be enough for a back massage. Below is how much was melted after 20 minutes. To ensure an even burn and to make sure you’re able to use all the oil once the candle is done for, let it burn for half an hour so the oil reaches the edges of the holder.

After blowing it out, the wax remained an oil for the entire duration of the first massage, which was very close to half an hour. At that point, it was starting to solidify just a bit.

Scent: The scent is amazing! It’s just like opening a can of lychee fruits. It’s fresh, fruity, and tropical. Lapsang souchong is a black tea. This scent may not be noticed by many, but you can smell it, if you know what you’re sniffing for. At one point, I actually had a carton of lychee black tea bags, and they smell very similar to this, although not as sweet.

The scent quickly fills the room, and is very strong. If you’re scent-sensitive, it may be a little too overpowering. I wouldn’t say I’m that sensitive, but sitting next to the candle is almost a little too much for me. Although the directions say to start with the oil at the temples and work down, we have yet to do this with myself. Because the scent is so strong, I’d rather not have it that close to my face.

Although the scent does fade after massage, I do catch a whiff of it every once in a while. Clothes and sheets will absorb the scent and smell for a few days until it’s laundry time. It’s nothing overwhelming, just a sweet reminder. I’ve tried just dabbing this on my pulse points as solid perfume, but I can’t say anyone noticed. If I get my nose close to the skin, though, I can smell it.

Unfortunately, my skin chemistry doesn’t play nice with this scent. Left on my skin for a while, it starts to smell sort of…like something burning.. along with the scent of lychee. It’s weird… I’ve had my husband stick his nose to my skin, and that’s his opinion, too. I’m not sure why, but I figure I better put the warning out there. Everyone has different chemistry. So, this may or may not be the case for you. It wasn’t the case for my husband.

Massage Time: I would say that about a tablespoon of oil was more than enough to massage my husband’s back for well over half an hour. He’s 6’5", so he has a large back. At about half an hour into the first session, I was starting to get tired. I was going to keep going until all of the oil soaked in, but I just ended up giving up. So, I’ve cut down to about 2/3 that amount, and that works out much better.

The oil has a smooth, silky feel to it. It stays cool enough not to burn the skin, and is a very comfortable, warm, soothing temperature for both my husband and myself. If I dip my finger into a pool of the massage oil, it’ll drip down about halfway to my knuckle and then stop, turning into something of a slightly gel-ish oil. It feels a little thick and rich, but it doesn’t have the same oily feeling as something like veggie oil. (Using veggie oil as an example, as I figure that’s something most folks have touched.)

Residue: If I use too much, it can leave the skin a little greasy. For the most part, though, it’ll just soak right in. My hands and legs have been really dry because of Winter, and they just soak this stuff right up and it makes them feel much better.

I haven’t noticed any gummy little pills, like some candles create. The oil stays oil, and doesn’t get waxy at all.

Cleanup: If you use just enough, you shouldn’t need to clean up after; it should just soak right into the skin. If you, or the person you’re massaging, are still oily, a quick shower will fix that. I haven’t had any issues with this staining, but I would advise you to be careful.

The candle holder is lovely, and I’ve kept mine. To easily get all of the leftover wax out, leave the candle holder in the freezer overnight. In the morning, you can just pop the extra wax right out. You can also fill it with water and allow it to soak until the wax floats to the top, but I prefer the freezer method.

If you want to make sure to use every last bit of the candle, place it on one of those candle warmers, or put it in a pot of hot water. Dig the rest of the wick out before you do that, though.

Jimmyjane is great and all, but I’d like to be able to get their logo off this candle holder to make it a little less conspicuous. Does anyone know a good method to remove it? If so, please leave a comment!

Storage: As wax can attract and hold onto dust and whatnot, I would return the candle to its original packaging, when not in use. If you store it somewhere too warm, it can get soft, but that should be obvious. It’s not really going to make much of a difference if the candle gets too warm, though. Well, not unless you knock it off the shelf or something. Then you’ll have a messy problem.

Opinion: I love the design of the porcelain candle holder. It looks beautiful when lit, and the pour spout on the one corner makes massage time less of mess. I just wish I could get the company logo off.

The scent is exactly what is on the box. It smells strongly of lychee with a soft undertone of black tea. It hasn’t caused my husband or me any headaches, but be aware that the scent is very strong.

Although I’m not quite sure about some of the ingredients, this does seem to be a high-quality massage candle. It melts quickly, stays liquid for about half an hour after being blown out, and provides a rich oil that allows my hands to easily glide. A little goes a long way. I honestly couldn’t resist getting a couple more, after trying this one out. So, look for reviews of other scents of the Jimmyjane Afterglow Massage Candle soon!

Review of the Fenis STP Device

The Fenis is a silicone STP (Stand-To-Pee) device that was "designed to bridge the physical gap between the way men and women urinate". This device allows the user to urinate in a standing position and even control the direction of the flow. Unlike medicine spoons and many other STP devices, the Fenis has a soft, flexible body to allow for easy storage and travel.

Although the Fenises in the video below aren’t the final models (this is from 2010), it’s a great video, if you’d like to see how these devices are intended to work and learn a little more of the backstory. I will warn you, though, the people that the creator and his partner are pitching the Fenis to are very unprofessional and immature, at least in my opinion. I’m mostly referring to Arlene. It was very frustrating for me to watch her and listen to her remarks.

Packaging: My hot pink Fenis came in a clear Ziploc bag with the company label.

Curled inside the shaft was a slip of paper that has the user guide printed on it. There’s a small diagram showing how to position it as well as information about testing the device, positioning and use, and cleaning and care.

Material: The Fenis is made of pure silicone. This means that the device is phthalates-free, latex-free, and will resist the growth of bacteria.

Since the manufacturer utilizes an injection molding system, some bubbles remain in the final product. They do plan to eliminate these bubbles from their products, when they improve their manufacturing methods. All of their items are handmade.

The material is very flexible, and allows the device to be folded and squashed, while still being able to return to its original state. So far, I’ve have no issue with the bubbles tearing or opening up holes. If anything ever happens to it, I’ll be sure to update. Since these devices are made of silicone, though, they should remain in perfect condition for years to come.

Size: The Fenis is a little over 7” in total length. The shaft is 3.75” long, and 1.25” wide. The receptacle is 3.5” long, and 1.5” across at the widest point. This device is not intended for packing, and is not a medical device. Please note that I have exceptionally small hands, so anything I hold will look much larger than it is. I wear a size 4 wedding band, which is actually loose on me.

Experience: As a cisgendered female who is very picky about the sanitary conditions of where I’ll pee, this is awesome. Although I don’t mind squatting and have basically perfected my aim since I’ve been doing that probably ever since elementary school (OMG Germs on the toilet seat! No touchie!), there have been times in my life that I’ve desperately wished for something like the Fenis.

Because apparently women never go camping or fishing, whenever my husband and I do, the bathrooms are always a nightmare. I’ve snuck in the men’s bathroom plenty of times, just because the women’s was so full of spider webs and a various creepy crawlies.

The Fenis is easy to carry with me, even if I don’t want to take a bag or backpack with me; I can just crumple it up and shove it in my pocket. Lining the receptacle up underneath of me was a little tricky the first couple times, but I got used to it pretty quickly. As long as you have it in the right spot and angle, and don’t press it into your body, you’re good. After the initial testing failures, it’s been smooth sailing and I haven’t had any issues with leaking or any mess, all without having to take my pants down.

The only problem I have had is with splashing. It seems no matter what angle or what speed I control my urine stream, I still splash if I’m peeing into a toilet. I had my husband pee into it to see if he would have the same problem, and to get sort of a comparison of his natural urination in contrast to urinating with the Fenis. He, unfortunately, had the same problem as me, and we can’t really figure out where we’re going wrong. The hole for the urine to exit the Fenis is much larger than the typical urethra, so I was thinking maybe that’s the issue. He thinks it’s just the way the hole was made.

Cleaning: If you’re at home, you can wash it with soap and water, use a 10% bleach solution on it, or boil it. If you’re out in a remote area, a quick rinse is good if water is available. If not, you can fold the device and store it in a bag for later cleaning. If you have any wet wipes with you or toy wipes, that’ll do.

Storage: The plastic bag it comes in is fine for storage. If you plan to always have it with you, you can fold it up pretty small and comfortably carry it around in your pocket. You know those capsules that you can get little toys out of from quarter machines at the grocery store, or those capsules that some nylons come in? Yeah, you can fold the Fenis up that small and cram it in one of those.

Opinion: If you’ve ever wanted to pee standing up, The Fenis could be an option for you. Not only is it made of body-safe material that is flexible enough to just fold it up and cram it in my pocket, it’s great for when bathrooms are disgusting or non-existent.

My only problem is the splashing. It’s really annoying to try to pee in a toilet with this thing only to be splashed with urine and toilet water. I’ve seen reviews from others who haven’t seemed to have had this problem, so maybe it’s just me. Maybe with some more practice I can get this to work out a little less splashy for me.

They’re fairly cheap, only $15 dollars right now. So, if it turns out to be splashy for you, too, you’re not in the hole too far. If pink isn’t your thing, they come in 16 vibrant colors. They even make more phallic versions in flesh tones for those who are transgender (not saying you couldn’t just use this version) or just want an STP device that looks more realistic. I’ve been told that they’re also working on carrying cases and other product designs, so I’ll be keeping an eye on them. In the meantime, go check them out!

Review of the Tantus Pack ‘n Play No. 2

The line of Tantus Pack ‘n Play dildos was created to offer a toy that could be used not only for packing, but for penetration, as well. The soft silicone of this toy is designed to allow it to be packed comfortably in a harness underneath clothing, which the harder silicone inside the base makes it stand to attention when you drop your pants. This seemed almost too good to be true, so I just had to get my hands on one to review, namely the Tantus Pack ‘n Play No. 2.

Packaging: Dallas Novelty shipped my toy discreetly. There was no information on the package as to what was inside of it, and there was no mention of the company name in the return address. What you see to the right is what you get.

The toy came in a plain brown box, nestled in packing paper along with the packing slip.

As for the actual product packaging, it’s consistent with the typical Tantus packaging; the toy is nestled inside a clear, plastic cradle, housed in a clear plastic box with information about the company, material, and a brief statement about the cleaning options. The package makes no recommendations on compatible lubes, or contains any explicit directions for cleaning and care. Instead, you’re directed to the manufacturer’s website.

To help identify the toy, there is a pink sticker on the front that says “Pack ‘n’ Play.” The package could be reused for storage, if you so choose.

Size / Details:

• Length: 6.5"
• Insertable Length: 5.5"
• Circumference: 4.5"
• Diameter: 1 1/2"
• Harness Compatibility: O-ring compatible
• Weight: 10 oz
• Color: Cocoa (There’s only one color. Cocoa is about the color of milk tea.)
I realize that it may look huge, but keep in mind that my wedding ring is a size 4, and is still loose on me. Anything I hold looks bigger than it is.

Material / Firmness: All silicone toys made by Tantus are hand-made green in the U.S.A using the highest quality 100% Premium Platinum silicone. This means, if properly cared for, this toy can last a lifetime. It’s hypoallergenic, phthalates-free, latex-free, odorless, tasteless, boilable, bleachable, and completely non-toxic.

This toy can be share between partners, if properly sterilized first. Also, never switch from anal to vaginal penetration with this toy without sterilizing it first, unless you use a clean condom for each orifice. Silicone toys and silicone-based lubricants don’t always play well together. It’s because of this reason that you should test how certain lubricated condoms react to the toy, as some can have silicone-based lubricants.

The density of this toy is much like that of the O2 line – squishy outer layer covering a harder core – but the core only reaches through about 1/3 of the toy. The base is very dense, while a couple inches of the shaft are squishy, yet firm on the inside. The rest of the shaft, along with the head, is very squishy. The entire toy can easily be bent, twisted, and even wrung out like a car chamois. Despite all that abuse, it readily snaps back to its original shape. Although the core isn’t present through the whole toy, it can still easily stand on its own without being floppy.

Compatible Lubricant: Water-based lubricant is recommended for use with this toy. Silicone-based lubes can be used, but a patch test is advised when using silicone-based lubricant with any silicone toy. Silicone-based lubes can bond to silicone, causing a gummy mess. This is either due to low-grades of silicone used for toys and/or lubricants. Dab a small amount on the base of the toy and wait. If the toy and/or the lube start feeling sticky or tacky, scrape that stuff off, wash the toy well, and never use that lubricant on your toy again.

Texture / Design: In addition to the dual-density, this toy also has a dual finish. The head is smooth and glossy, while the shaft has a matte texture that feels soft and fairly similar to the skin on the shaft of a penis.

This toy is very similar in design to the Tantus Mark O2 Dildo. The only difference is that the solid core only comes 1/3 of the way up the shaft, to allow the Pack ‘n Play to be easily packed. The head and upper shaft are very squishy. About 2/3 of the way down from the head, you’ll feel the solid core beneath the soft, squish layer of silicone. This continues to the base, which is actually quite firm.

The design is fairly realistic, although subtle in some places. You’ll find three veins climbing up the shaft, and a noticeable corpus spongiosum. The head has a slight lip to it, along with a subtle frenulum leading up to the urethra.

Packing / Harness Play: I’m a tiny thing (5’1” and 98lbs), which means that this toy makes it look like I have a trouser snake. Pair that with the fact that most of my jeans are fairly tight, and you have a recipe for disaster. Not only do I have a bulge going down my pants, the base smashes against my vulva in a manner that becomes uncomfortable after about a minute.

In Tantus’ defense, I can’t say I own any male jeans, so that could be most of my problem. However, the shaft is a little firm for packing, in my opinion.

As a harness-compatible dildo for pegging, I can’t say I’ve had any issues with it. Right when I pull down my pants, it stands at a attention, ready to go. The shaft is firm enough for penetration and for thrusting.

Vaginal Use: Due to the soft finish of the shaft, and the dual density, this dildo feels pretty realistic. Of course, the glossy head doesn’t feel like the real thing, but the rest is pretty close. The lip of the head isn’t very pronounced, so don’t expect much of pop. Also, since the pronounced veins are so soft, I don’t really notice them. For the most part, the dildo feels pretty smooth in use. If you’re used to more texture, g-spot stimulation, or a size larger than average, you may want to go with a bigger O2 dildo.

Anal Use: The flared base on this dildo means that it’s suitable for anal play. It’s decently slim and cushiony, so I would probably recommend it possibly from beginner to intermediate. Always use plenty of lubricant and take an adequate amount of time to work up to the size of this dildo for anal penetration.

As with vaginal penetration, there is a very subtle pop from the rim of the head. Due to the round, slick surface of the head, you may or may not have issues with it sliding right off a slick anus instead of going in. As long as you’re warmed up and stretched out enough, though, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Although the solid core doesn’t extend through the whole shaft, this dildo is fine for thrusting. Since there’s not much of a curve, and since it does bend, don’t expect to get very direct prostate stimulation out of it.

Cleaning: If you have a large enough pot to where the toy will not touch the sides during immersion, you can boil this for 5 minutes. It can also be sent through the dishwasher (sans detergent), wiped with a 10% bleach solution and rinsed, or simple washed with a mild soap and water. Most toy cleaners and toy wipes are also fine. Take extra care cleaning around the urethra and edge of the head.

Storage: Keep this toy somewhere where it will not be squished or touch other toys, and where it will not collect dust and hair. You can keep it in a lint-free bag, a toy storage unit, its packaging, or wherever you feel it will be safe.

Opinion: As a dildo, it’s great. For packing, I’m just not so sure on that one. Sure the shaft is softer because it’s made of soft silicone without the harder core going the the entire middle of it, but it’s still pretty firm to bend into a pair of pants. If your pants are too tight, the base can dig into your vulva while your pants show off your trouser snake. If your pants are too baggy, then you’ll just be popping a tent.

I’ll still be using it for harness play and as a dildo, but this isn’t something I would consider packing with. I love the concept, but I just haven’t gotten it to work for me…
